  • GateHouse part of First Amendment campaign 1 For All

  • GateHouse Media has partnered with Newseum and other news organizations in the national 1 For All First Amendment education campaign. Here's how you can build on the program.

  • GateHouse Media is an active participant in the 1 for All program, designed to build an understanding and support for the First Amendment. The program is coordinated through the Newseum.
    Dozens of media organizations and other industry leaders are taking part in the campaign, which will provide teaching materials to the nation's schools on the First Amendment.
    For more information on the campaign, click here. Some ideas to make the most of the program in your newspaper:
    -- A big part of 1 For All is a contest encouraging video and photo submissions of people celebrating their freedom. Winners will be part of the national campaign. Use this information as a reader callout, so readers send you this information, too.
    -- Ask readers to think of events in history that wouldn't have taken place without the First Amendment. Start them off with civil rights marches and assemblies, coverage of the Watergate scandal and women rallying for the right to vote.
    -- Run a First Amendment quiz to see if people know what it means. A starter question: How many words are in the First Amendment? (Only 45.) Here's the text, and some thought-provoking FAQs.
