  • The GateHouse Media News & Interactive Division has announced new video and community blog plans for its websites, as part of a push to increase their digital content offerings.
The company announced the plans this week. Training for the initiatives will start later this summer, with the expectation that by the start of next year all newspapers are increasing their offerings of video and community blogs, as well as even more engagement on Facebook.
The new initiatives will significantly increase the amount of video and community blogs GateHouse Media websites currently offer.
As part of this initiative, GateHouse Media will roll out new video cameras for sites that currently don't have equipment needed to meet the new expectations.
The company released new expectations for its newsrooms in the following areas:
    VIDEO
    • 1-2 staff members: 1 video a week
    • 3-5 staff members: 2 videos a week
    • 6-19 staff members: 3 videos a week
    • 19+ staff members: 5 videos a week
GateHouse Media will be rolling out a new video player for its websites in August.
    COMMUNITY BLOGGING
    • 1-2 staff members: 2 community bloggers
    • 3-5 staff: 2 community bloggers
    • 6-19 staff: 3 community bloggers
    • 19+: 6 community bloggers
GateHouse Media will be launching a community blogging platform in its content management system and a national network that will include dozens and dozens of blogs.
    FACEBOOK
All GateHouse Media newspapers, by the end of July, will have Facebook pages launched and will be expected to have have at least two status updates a day, Monday through Friday.
    TRAINING
There will be a variety of regional meetings through October where News & Interactive trainers will go over these new initiatives in detail.
Our 45-page handbook addresses all of the strategies in detail.
