Hollywood's big night is a big opportunity to connect with readers.
Feb. 21, 2012 12:01 a.m.

Glitz, glamour, winners and losers will all be on display Sunday when the annual Academy Awards ceremony honoring the best in the movies will be broadcast. Are people in your area excited?

The Oscars have plenty of fans, and many people have been hard at work trying to predict the winners this year. Oscar parties are held around the country and millions of people watch not only the winner's being announced, but also the build up of the red carpet.

Some way to localize:

  • Have some fun with readers with this. Ask people for their picks, maybe hold a contest for readers.

  • Tease coverage in the print editions and on the night of the show give continuous updates on Twitter and Facebook. Engage readers by seeking their comments on the winners and losers. Use those comment in print and/or online.

  • The day after the Oscars, be sure to cover not only the awards, but everything from the red carpet to the after-parties.
