  • The Newton Kansan has launched a redesign as part of the GateHouse News & Interactive Newsroom Incubator Program. We asked publisher Randy Mitchell about the new look and launch.
1] Please tell us a little about Newton: Newton is the county seat of Harvey, about 26 miles north of Wichita, with a total population of 33,000.  A railroad town, Newton was once known as the wickedest city in the West.
2] Please tell us about your newsroom: We have one managing editor, one sports reporter, one news editor and two writers/reporters.
3] What changes has the relaunch brought to The Kansan?
    a. New cleaner layout, more white space, cleaner look.
    b. Seamless integration with GateHouse News Service content.
    c. New features, including Fact Checker and What's Going on Here.
4] What advice do you have for editors and publishers considering the Incubator Program and redesign?
    a. Just going with it and do not be afraid to give your opinion.
5] What has been the reaction from your readers?
Very positive. At the same time we also hired a new managing editor and increased the price of single copy from 50 cents to 75 cents.
If you have any questions about the Incubator Program, contact Chris Biondi at cbiondi@gatehousemedia.com.
