The graphic shows application download trends since spring. Green is iPhone; blue is BlackBerry; red is Android. The bit of organce at the top is the just-launched Canton Repository iPad app.

GateHouse continues to make big strides in the growth of our mobile audience, via mobile browser, applications for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry and, now, with our first iPad application.

Across the company, we have seen big growth in readers accessing our full websites via iPads, but early this month we launched our first iPad application, at the Canton Repository, in partnership with mobile vendor Spreed Inc. of Toronto.

Executive editor Jeff Gauger writes about the iPad launch here, and you can take a look at the app in iTunes here.

A few more mobile highlights:

  • Mobile traffic in October grew 12.2 percent over September and is up nearly 300 percent year over year.
  • Traffic on our Spreed applications at 10 top sites is leading the charge, increasing roughly 50 percent month over month, continuing a trend that began with launch in the spring.
  • Apps traffic now accounts for about 23 percent of our overall monthly mobile traffic. The rest is via mobile browser.
  • On our mobile Web browser, Android users now outpace Apple iOS users: Android: 44.0%; iOS: 40.5%; and
    BlackBerry: 8.8%
