Fast on Christmas' heels will come New Year's Eve and 2011, and GateHouse News Service has a callout ad you can use to get readers' photos from next weekend.

Ways to maximize this callout's potential:

-- Ask readers to send in a photo of the first thing they did in the new year. Could be reading the paper, watching football or playing in the snow. More ways to frame this callout could include Your New Year's Eve Kiss or Couldn't Stay Up 'Til Midnight (cute kids fast asleep). Sometimes more-specific themes help readers know what you're looking for and what to send in.

-- With this callout, ask readers whether anyone was or knows a New Year's baby, someone born first at a hospital on Jan. 1. Go through your archives of First Baby stories and see whether anyone still lives in the area. What are the first babies of 2009, 2000, 1980 and 1960 (etc.) doing now?

-- Ask readers to dig up their photos of New Years past. Will any dare to share party photos from the '80s, or old college days? Doesn't hurt to ask.

NOTE: This callout is the first of 2011. Watch GHNewsroom on Jan. 4 for the complete 2011 callout schedule.
