GateHouse Media sees strong growth in mobile browser, apps traffic

Mobile traffic for GateHouse Media sites - browser and app-based - continues to surge, with browser views doubling since last summer.

The top 20 sites plus the Wicked Local network in Massachusetts and the My Suburban Life in GateHouse have been launched for a year, and the sites have seen steady growth since last summer.

Mobile traffic was 5.8 percent of overall traffic in June 2011.

Some highlights:

  • Mobile browser pages views have more than doubled since last summe.
  • June 2011 page views increased 20.3 percent over May 2011.
  • Visits in June 2011 increased 4 percent over May.
  • All of the Top 10 sites in GateHouse saw an increase in mobile page views month over month in June 2011, nine of them in double digits.
  • The 10 sites now launched on mobile apps saw a combined 53.8 percent page view increase in June 2011 over May 2011. The apps are available or iPhone and Blackberry. When the Android app is launched later this summer, the sites should see a significant traffic increase.
  • The Journal-Register (Springfield, IL) was the top mobile browser site in June 2011.
  • The Journal Star (Peoria, IL) was the top app site in June 2011.

As GateHouse rolls out mobile platforms, News & Interactive will continue to emphasize key mobile strategies, including the publishing of mobile appropriate content - timely and relevant - during off-business hours and weekends, when demand for mobile content is higher.
