AP’s Ask the Editor recently weighed in on leap year and leap day. The ruling? Lowercase these phrases.
For the record, leap day is next Wednesday. The extra day makes it Feb. 29.

Ask the Editor answered a good question the other day about what to call Macs and PCs. Here is their answer:
Usually expressed as Mac computers or Macs, which are made and sold by Apple Inc. or Apple. Also referred to as Apple's Mac. A Windows PC is a personal computer using that brand of software. Windows computer and just plain PC are also fine.

Here are some other random AP style tips:
- Say school-age children instead of school-aged. Generally speaking, there’s no reason to use aged (unless you’re talking about wine or cheese).
- Sci-fi is hyphenated when it’s used as an adjective or a noun.
- Use human growth hormone on first reference, then HGH thereafter.
- Don’t use semicolons or commas in bulleted lists. Treat them like complete sentences. The bullets let the reader know the list is ongoing, so a comma or semicolon is redundant.
