Sharing a fan photo on Facebook sparks engagement

Yesterday I shared one of the things the staff at the Wellsville Daily Reporter did that got great fan engagement on Facebook. Today I'll talk about something else they did that earned them over 100 new fans.

WHAT THEY DID: From editor John Anderson: "I saw a photo a reader got of a buck. Simply added the photo to our site with the caption 'BJ Howe drops a bruiser.' In no time, we have 147 likes and 258 comments, many about hunting vs. anti-hunting. Did not see that coming!"

THE TAKEAWAY: Being alert and engaged yourself on Facebook - which is what it takes to spot a interesting fan photo and think to share it - is definitely Facebook best practices. And, as you can see, following Facebook best practices will get you engaged fans on Facebook. As of yesterday, the Wellsville Daily Reporter had 4,489 fans on Facebook. That's more than some of our largest papers - no small feat.
