The Observer-Dispatch gave its inaugural night of high school football coverage a big ride on its Saturday front page.
The feature story focuses on the tradition of attending local games by students and fans.
The story angle is reflected in the photo of student fans shot by staff photographer Jason Rossi. An action photo by Rossi of a local season-opener is presented downpage with the story.
The package is framed with narrow vertical images of gridiron hash marks for a nice touch. It appears the same image is used for both sides, with the image at right rotated and reversed. (The depth of field focus and alignment gave that away.)
A small column of content promotions to game coverage in the sports section is presented as a quick-hit scoreboard, giving readers the scores at a glance.
Another set of promotions to online coverage alerts readers where they can go for more. I particularly like the iSpy refer where readers will fine a photo gallery of folks who attended the game.
Nice page.
