Mandy Jenkins' webinar on digital tools to cover Election 2012 was full of great ideas, suggestions and tips. We've got a link to her presentation, plus some tips and takeaways.

Jenkins, the interactives editor for Digital First media shared ideas on how to use Twitter lists, Facebook lists, liveblog tools and user-contributed maps for election coverage.

On liveblogging:

Do short, frequent takes
Curate content from a variety of sources
Promote liveblog before, during and replays on site & social media
Make it interactive

On live tweeting:

Mix play-by-play with context, background
Pass on quotes, who is there, add in photos
Use tweets as your notes for later
Note significant pauses and stops
Check facts before you hit “tweet”
Take questions, respond when possible

On Twitter lists:

Build lists in Twitter to make sense of incoming tweets

Lists to build:
Local/national campaigns
Campaign reporters
Local politicos, tastemakers

Here's a how-to on building Twitter lists.

On Facebook lists:

Follow politicians and campaigns without "fanning" their pages by building a list on Facebook that includes them.

Here's a how-to on building Facebook lists.

User-contributed maps:

You can use Google Forms  and Mapalist to create user-contributed maps for finding out about problems at polling places.
