Prom season is approaching for many of our regions. May's syndicated Local Loop callout will help you get photos, and here are some story ideas for covering this fun time in the community:

-- Are local students making prom attire out of duct tape, cardboard, chip bags? Be sure to profile these artists -- and you could do a contest for best homemade prom attire, be it an outfit of odd materials, or something hand-sewn or self-designed.

-- What local resources are there for students who can't afford prom attire, or for donations of no-longer-needed dresses and accessories? Many seem to be out there for dresses, but what about for boys' formal wear? How much are students (or their parents) spending for prom, and why do some feel it has to be such a splurge?

-- What local schools or education facilities don't have prom? What do home-schooled students do? Do they feel they're missing out on a rite of passage?

-- What are your local proms' themes? Why were they chosen? Is anything really out there, like Zombie Prom?

-- Do your local schools have certain requirements for prom attendance, such as you must attend a certain amount of classes, or you can't bring students from other schools? What safety features are in place, or safeguard against alcohol and drugs being introduced into the school?

May's syndicated callout, for prom photos, will be on all Local Loop sites and in all sites' carousels May 1-31.
