The Repository in Canton, Ohio, turns to Storify to supplement its coverage of the third presidential debate. The newsroom uses the social media platform to compile readers’ online comments and feedback of the event as it unfolded.

WHAT THEY DID: “All the credit goes to our online editor, Dwight Kier,” says Scott Brown, director of digital content for The Repository. “He started using Storify as a supplement to event coverage by compiling the public’s tweets on certain subjects in the news. Then we decided to start using it for actual event coverage ourselves, so we could get coverage to the public faster while also interacting with them.

“Storify also is a big part of our election-night plans. All news updates from reporters will be via Twitter, and we will compile them — along with tweets from the public — using Storify.”

THE TAKEAWAY: Using Storify to create a story from the best of social media gives readers the chance to follow a story from start to finish. The aggregation of the tweets, links, photos and videos of an event helps paints a complete picture and adds context to the entire coverage.
