GateHouse Media New England and Wicked Local will be honored with the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Media Partner Promise Award Aug. 8 in Boston.

The group will be recognized for its leadership and service in the community at the first Volunteer & Donor Appreciation Event for those helping fight breast cancer.

According to a press release, "GateHouse Media New England started the Paint it all Pink program in 2009 and celebrated its third anniversary this past October. During the Paint it all Pink campaign, the company’s biggest campaign, it turns its more than 100 newspapers and websites pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Readers and supporters can find content dedicated to breast health, contests promoting corporate partners who support the fight against breast cancer, and a digital footprint dedicated to all things breast health."

GateHouse expanded Paint it All Pink to a companywide campaign in 2011.

The Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is an organization that works with, and on behalf of, breast cancer survivors and those who support them in local communities. With 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate staying in Massachusetts, the Affiliate is able to fund educational programs, offer grant money to organizations that support its mission, and help better the lives of those facing breast cancer. For more information, visit www.komenmass.org.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure began when Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became reality and the global breast cancer movement was launched. Twenty-five percent of proceeds generated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research.
