Conor Plunkett has been named the director of GateHouse Media's community central desk.

Conor has been prepress and commercial print director of GateHouse Media New England since January 2001, although his tenure within the organization extends back to 1986. He will start in his new role on April 2.

He will oversee the 70-person design and editing hub based in Framingham, Mass., and will be responsible for the production of daily newspapers under 5,000 circulation and all non-daily newspapers.

"Conor's experience in managing production and quality control of many newspapers in one center will be such a huge asset to operating the community desk," said David Arkin, Vice President of Content & Audience for GateHouse Media. "He has deep expertise in systems and workflow and will help create smart processes that will make this transition smooth for our newspapers."

His career began at the Boston Herald sports desk and eventually migrated into the prepress, pagination and creative departments of various Fidelity-owned newspapers. Conor has been instrumental in the consolidation of numerous pagination departments within Massachusetts, while creating two highly efficient production centers for over 120 weekly newspapers.

During the last 15 years he has also helped coordinate the integration and standardization of all production system platforms across GateHouse New England and has driven several web-width and column-size conversions.
