With the final papers graded, the list of GateHouse newsrooms certified for Inner Circle has grown to 186 in the first quarter.
New digital expectations joined the original Inner Circle categories for 2012, but most newsrooms took the additional challenges in stride.
On the print side, Inner Circle evaluators were looking for alternative story formats featuring public service or community partner journalism, specific callouts for reader-submitted content, and specific teases to content found only online and only in print.
Online, expectations included constant website updates, photo galleries, videos, community blogs and consistent Facebook posting.
Through the evaluation, we learned that more than 300 blogs are being featured, although some of those are syndicated across multiple sites. With each blogger posting twice weekly or more, the blogs are contributing a vast amount of unique, local content to our sites.
