We have a double winner for front page of the month for January — The Enterprise and The Patriot Ledger for their "6 Reasons the Patriots will defeat the Ravens" package.
The first-in-print piece was a collaboration between folks at both papers, so says Chazy Dowaliby, the editor who oversees the editorial content at both pubs.
She explains:
"The main element on the page, that NFL playoff ASF, was the collaborative effort of Enterprise sports writer Glen Farley and Patriot Ledger designer Dorene Reardon."
"Glen, who has been covering football and The New England Patriots for more that 20 years, had some specific reasons why he thought the Pats would soar over the Ravens. Instead of traditional a column, he wrote key points as succinctly as possible.
"Dorene took that ball and ran with it."
Love that football pun.
Reardon continues:
“I had toyed with the idea of using the coaches, but ultimately thought this image of Tom Brady had the most impact. He looked so confident which I felt told the story of how they were approaching this particular playoff game.
“I purposely toned down the logos, making them recognizable, but not too dominant .I also added the date/time of the game to make sure it was obvious to the reader, since it’s an integral piece of info. The overall colors played off the Pats uniforms.”
If you watched the Super Bowl, you know the outcome. No need to throw salt in the wound.
Great collaboration, great page(s).
