| Give us a short history of your newspaper: |
The Boonville Daily News was founded in 1919. Our claim to fame is that Walter Williams, the journalist who championed press freedoms and founded the Missouri School of Journalism, once served as editor of the paper.
|
| Tell us something unique about your community: |
Located along the Missouri River, Boonville is a town of 10,000 people. Its residents include history buffs, farmers and art enthusiasts.
|
| Do you have any quirky or fun newsroom traditions? Any mascots? What's your newsroom snack of choice? |
Our receptionist Joyce Roach serves as our head cheerleader and keeps the newsroom lively with her jokes, singing and snacks. We held our second chili contest earlier this year and plan to hold more competitions among staff members. No matter what the occasion, Joyce always brings food and does a superb job of varying the menu.

| What has your newsroom accomplished recently that you are most proud of? What was your biggest story in the past year? |
Our coverage of the Katy Bridge ownership agreement and problems in the Cooper County water district was our biggest story of the year. Our readers cared a great deal about these issues, and I think we did a nice job of presenting relevant information in a clear, understandable manner.

| What new initiatives does your newspaper have planned? (Is there a new feature, special section or big story you want to tackle?) |
We recently had two of our open records requests fulfilled and are in the process of sifting through the documents and entering data into spreadsheets. I think both these stories will prove worthwhile.
|
| How about anything else you’d like to share? |
Our circulation manager Edward Lang lives in the house that Walter Williams grew up in. We like to keep the house in the BDN family.
