PAPERS SERVED: Mount Shasta Herald, Siskiyou Daily
News, Taft Midway Driller, The Daily Independent, The Gridley Herald

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This series focused on what local schools were cutting, and how local community volunteers were stepping up in increasing numbers to fill the gap. The package included a rundown of the governor’s tax initiative, and what the impact on education could be if the measure fails. Reporters also hit the street and asked local residents if and why they were concerned about the future of public education.

MULTIMEDIA: The staff posted a poll asking readers if they supported raising taxes for education – as of the package’s press time, about 400 votes had been cast with the majority of readers against raising taxes.
