Check these spook-tastic front pages, just in time for Halloween.
Who doesn't like zombies these days? This goulish skybox atop Thursday's Journal Star is a scream. The promotion teases — or scares — readers to the story inside on the local Drunken Zombie Film Festival. Nice.
The Patriot Ledger ran a couple of nice centerpieces. Over the weekend, a cute feature focused on "Halloween half-pints" with photos of several children in costumes. Check out the gallery of cute photos.
Today's centerpiece package uses a fun illustration by staffer Bob Monahan to pull readers into the piece on Halloween by the numbers, as well as things to do if you're not trick-or-treating.
More zombies are on the prowl, looking for human flesh in Adrian, Mich. The Daily Telegram ran this photo feature front and center on Saturday.
BOO!
Does this photo scare you? If you believe in ghosts it might. Even more so if you live near the Irish Hills in southern Michigan. Local resident Jeff Westover took this photo of what he believes is the face of a ghost that inhabits a local tavern. See the extreme closeup of a ghostly white face? Westover self-published a book titled "Ghost Highway" on nearby places where people have reported "ghostly activity," Dan Cherry's story says. His story appears on today's front below. Read more about Westover's book here.
The Holland Sentinel's story by Megan Schmidt on Day of the Dead focuses on the holiday the day after Halloween that celebrates loved ones who have died.
This photo by Morning Sun staffer Sean Steffen shows a paranormal investigator cast in eery light inside a home believed to be haunted. The hues of orange and black in this photo are perfect for this Halloween edition. Check out the story by staff writer Nikki Patrick.
The Daily Republican in southern Illinois gets into the act with a centerpiece photo by Renee Pressley that shows the winners of a local costume contest. S-P-O-O-K-Y!
Why do we seek to be scared out of our skulls on Halloween? The Holland Sentinel's Lisa Ermak seeks to answer that with her story on fear. Love the fear photo by staffer Dennis Geppert. I also like the only-in-print feature below that asks "What scares you?" Responses include fish, octopuses and — duh — haunted houses.
