With a lot of focus on energy-efficient homes these days, it's big deal when a local university is one of only 20 universities around the world to be selected to design and build a solar-powered house. This week The Rolla Daily News ran the story as a centerpiece and decided to use an alternative story format. The "5 Things to Know About ..." ASF is a great way inform readers that doesn't rely on narrative, making the information easy to gather and quick to write. The large numbers help draw readers' attention to the package. Who doesn't have time to read five graphs, right? Research shows that time-strapped readers won't read stories that appear long. The five items in the centerpiece have a total length close to that of the storm story down the right side (sans jump), yet it doesn't appear that way because of the way it's presented. Great job!
