The GateHouse News Service editors sat in on a NewsU webinar Thursday on improving the SEO factors in our headlines. We learned:

-- Keywords in a story's title and URL amplify its relevance to search engines.

-- Search engines like proper names and nouns. (Yes, they like first names and last names too, in a blow to traditional headline style.)

-- Good places to check what people are searching for on Google include its auto-complete function in the search bar, Google Insights for Search and Google Trends.

You can still see the webinar as a replay -- click here. Check out NewsU's other headline writing tools, too.

And for a good chuckle at all this mumbo-jumbo, read this column.
