Ray Johnson has been named daytime manager of GateHouse Media’s community Design House.

Ray has held various pagination management roles at GateHouse Media New England since 1985, currently overseeing the pagination and design of 91 weekly newspapers. He will start his new role on April 2.

He will be responsible for the daytime operations of the design and editing hub based in Framingham, Mass., which will produce all daily newspapers under 5,000 circulation and all non-daily newspapers.

“Ray has worked with me and for me for many years. Throughout this time I have always been impressed with his intelligence, his dedication, his attention to detail, and his passion for the newspaper business,” said Conor Plunkett, Director of the Community Design House for GateHouse Media.  “He is a consummate professional who has seen his fair share of changes, consolidations and workflow revisions, and helped make this company more efficient in many ways.”

Ray began his career with the Beacon Community Newspaper chain, located in Concord, Mass., where he played a pivotal role in the automation and digitization of those newspapers. As the chain was merged into the larger group that is currently GateHouse Media, Ray continued to set the standard for how newspapers could be paginated efficiently and on stringent deadlines to meet ever changing print windows. Ray was instrumental in several site consolidations and redesign initiatives, all the while, focused on producing community newspapers of the highest quality possible.
