The Independent named front page of the day

A number of visuals pop off the cover of The Independent today, including some local faces, a guitar and President Barack Obama. But take a look at the centerpiece photo by staff photographer Glenn Dettman. He found a way to make this dancing couple appear larger than life by looking for an interesting angle from which to snap this photo. Arms raised, legs kicking, blue sky and downtown buildings, not to mention the other passers by, make for an active, energetic photo. I'd bet this couple got a kick out of this page.

In the skybox, photos of the president and a local baseball coach add identifiable faces with informative headlines and text. I like the big auditor headline, but feel the story size is scant, with the subhead, mug and breakout occupying about the same amount of space as the headline itself. I like the guitar image at bottom, too.

Nice.
