Elder abuse is on the rise in Michigan. The state has more than 1.3 million senior citizens, and thousands of them are falling victim to elder abuse every year. Elder abuse is mistreatment that results in loss or harm to an elderly person, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, financial abuse and psychological abuse. The abuse is financial as well as physical and is often difficult to prosecute the offenders because they are caretakers or family members.
