Veteran Peoria Journal Star sports reporter Dave Reynolds has been named the Illinois Sportswriter of the Year for 2012.
The National Association of Sportswriters and Sportscasters made the announcement Thursday, making Reynolds its top selection for the third time in the past four years.
"Dave is an old-school pro,” Journal Star sports editor Kirk Wessler said. “He works the phones, keeps his ears open and has a keen eye for nuance. He's respected by the readers and by the people he covers. They know he's tough but fair and makes sure to get it right.
“We're privileged to have him on our staff, and everyone here is proud that he has been acknowledged yet again as Illinois Sportswriter of the Year."
Reynolds joined the Journal Star in 1982 and has covered Bradley University basketball since 1990. He shared state honors in 2009 and 2010 with Chicago Sun-Times columnist Rick Telander.
“Dave is the dean of sportswriters covering the Bradley Braves,” Journal Star executive editor Dennis Anderson said. “He provides must-read gamers, previews and features on his beat and has added multimedia to his coverage. We should all be proud of his accomplishment.”
