As the community in Harrisburg, Ill., still reels from the tornado that leveled homes and claimed lives early Wednesday morning, GateHouse Chief Executive Officer Mike Reed is expressing condolences to employees who lost loved ones in the disaster.
“While we understand all of our employees are safe, we have learned that one of our employees, Carol Rann, an account executive at the paper, lost two family members,” Reed said in a letter to employees Wednesday. “Our sales manager in nearby DuQuoin, Melissa Lazenby, also shares a family tie with Carol to one of the individuals who perished in the tornado. So the news is devastating all the way around.
Our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers are with Carol and Melissa. In fact, we had many employees throughout the Southern Illinois region, stretching to Missouri, who were stricken with fear and saw their communities ravaged by the storm. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and all of the families and friends of those killed.
Please keep our colleagues in your thoughts and prayersduring these most difficult and trying times.”
