Messenger Post Media established a stronger presence on the Web in the Rochester, N.Y., area when we launched 8 distinct hyper-local sites to serve key suburban communities earlier this month. The sites are brand new and all have strong weekly print products.

Last week, we told you about a unique situation at The Record Herald, a GateHouse Media newspaper in Pennsylvania, where story comments helped provide closure to a 1914 tragedy.

State of State speeches turn into live events for online readers
Like many governors will do this month, N.Y. Gov. David Paterson gave his State of State address earlier this week.
These kind of stories often get good play in local newspapers. At the very least a good 15-inch wire story is written about the event and often local folks will speak up about what they thought of the speech.
The Observer Dispatch took what's typically an annual process story and made the content quite readable in print by breaking the story into pieces.
