Seeing how a book cover design comes together is a great way to learn new techniques. But who has the time or the opportunity to shadow someone while working? Well, check out this time-lapse video of the making of a book cover.
Newspaper designers and graphic artists often must develop a centerpiece or section front illustration that captures the essence of a story. The same is done here, only with a much longer story. From what I can tell, an amazing amount of Photoshop work went into the final cover.

Quark tip: How to use the find/change function
Is there anyone out there who likes to see an incorrect quotation mark style in every other paragraph of a long story? I didn't think so. Those vertical marks can be appropriately replaced with smart quotes quickly and easily by using Quark's find/replace function.
