Seeing how a book cover design comes together is a great way to learn new techniques. But who has the time or the opportunity to shadow someone while working? Well, check out this time-lapse video of the making of a book cover.

Newspaper designers and graphic artists often must develop a centerpiece or section front illustration that captures the essence of a story. The same is done here, only with a much longer story. From what I can tell, an amazing amount of Photoshop work went into the final cover.

The Pekin (Ill.) Daily Times gave quite a wake up call to readers this week with a fresh redesign that coincided with a move to morning delivery. The changes to the design and delivery time took place with the Monday, Feb. 22 edition. (More pages below)

It's so interesting to see how GateHouse papers played its coverage of the Super Bowl on their front pages. From coverage of a local athlete playing in the big game to punchy skybox treatments, the presentations vary from paper to paper with differing levels of volume and emphasis all around. Here's a closer look and front pages and skyboxes:

Check out this well-written, nicely packaged feature from the Waynesville (Mo.) Daily Guide, a 1,500-circulation GateHouse paper. What makes this story and package so incredible is that it came from a newsroom of three people. We caught up with Editor DawnDee Bostwick who answered a few questions.
