In Quark, with no document open, double click on the rectangle picture box tool. After the Preferences dialogue box appears, select modify to set picture box frame.

In InDesign, with no document open, change the default stroke setting by entering a new weight value in the stroke palette.

Whether you use InDesign or Quark, it’s a good idea to set the default of all your tools and elements to make daily production more efficient. Every key stroke you can save will leave you more time each night to devote to writing, editing and design.
