With the deadly tornados that have plagued parts of the United States this spring, do your readers think the government should require storm shelters in some areas? Ask them in an online poll:
In the wake of the deadly tornados ripping through the country, should the goverment require storm shelters in areas that are at highest risk for storms? Or should the government regulate the industry to ensure consistent standards for the shelters that are built?
I think the government should require storm shelters and regulate the industry. Countless lives could be saved.
While government standards are a good idea to prevent fly-by-night companies from building shelters that wouldn't really protect people, I don't think the government should require shelters anywhere. There's a cost to that type of requirement, and it's not clear who would have to pay.
The government definitely has no business requiring shelters, and people should be savvy enough to make good choices about shelters they are buying. The bad companies will naturally go out of business because no one will use their services.
