GateHouse News Service used some emerging social media tools to cover the anniversary of 9/11 this month. Here's what you'll learn about them at a webinar on Thursday:

1

How to use them

Most of the news service staff and our reporters in New York and Washington, D.C., used Tumblr for the first time to keep readers apprised of what was happening through photos, video, blog posts and quotes. You will get a quick intro to Tumblr and Storify, as well as see what the reporters did with a Nikon Coolpix -- like your newsrooms are receiving -- and learn how to create Facebook and Twitter widgets for your site.

2

When to use them

An anniversary like 9/11 doesn't happen every day, so how can you use these tools in the field? We'll give you some examples.

3

Why to use them

So this stuff is great, but how you cover events now works just fine.

Does it?

Tumblr is the fastest-growing social medium (wouldn't you like to reach more readers and sources?), Storify is made for journalists and is adding tools rapidly, and stats show people love to watch video, especially raw video. Learn why you want your story on these mediums.
