How Illinois paper makes Facebook Fan of the Day work

Last week, I wrote about a few television stations that are doing Facebook Fan of the Day features and how that kind of feature would pair really nicely with "Subscriber of the Day," a feature a lot of newspapers run today. A GateHouse Media newspaper, the Register Mail, in Central Illinois, today actually runs a Facebook Fan of the Day feature.

Pew: Facebook readers hungry for political content

Pew came out with an interesting study this week titled "social networking sites and our lives." There's a bunch of good data in the study including info on users, trust and more. One of the significant headlines for newspapers has to do with political content.

The survey found that "Facebook users are much more politically engaged than most people."

The survey was conducted after the 2010 November election. The following stats show that a Facebook user is:

• 2 1/2 more times likely to attend a political rally than other social media and Internet users
• Fifty seven percent more likely to persuade someone to vote than other social media and Internet users
• 43 percent more likely to vote in an election than other social media and Internet users

Facebook panel: Auto feeds poor, 'question' feature has potential

Seems like auto and RSS feeds for social media are pretty hot buttons lately. Earlier this week I wrote about the New York Times' Twitter experiment.

Today, there was a really interesting post on the Washington Post about a panel that was moderated by Facebook journalist program manager Vadim Lavrusik recently.
