Some story ideas for the July 4 holiday:

-- MAPS: There is so much to do over Fourth of July weekend, consider mapping some options via Google and making a version for print. In addition to noting where the fireworks shows, parade routes, festivals and other standards are, include the locations and info on local parks, pools, campgrounds and other venues that families may be taking advantage of.

-- SAFETY: The weekend is a perfect time to list tips for safe boating, camping, grilling and swimming, as well as for sun and fireworks safety. Include addresses and phone numbers for the emergency care clinics that will be open over the weekend and on the holiday.

-- PARTY IDEAS: Readers can provide the recipes; you can provide party game and decor ideas. Kids want fireworks or sparklers? List safer options for little ones.

-- ECONOMY: Is there money in readers' budgets for holiday parties? If they can't have all the neighbors over for a bash, suggest ways to make a get-together less expensive. If a three-day vacation is out of the question, remind readers what museums and other attractions will be open over the weekend.

-- PATRIOTISM: July 4 isn't just a day off work or to shoot off fireworks. It celebrates the birth of our nation. How much do your readers know about the Declaration of Independence? I think a quiz is in order ...

What other angles will you pursue? Send them my way, and they may end up in a future GHNewsroom post or on our Best of the Day blog.
