As Hurricane Isaac soaked Louisiana, the editor of the Donaldsonville Chief took to Facebook to fast track information out to her readers.

Allison Hudson, who has been with the Donaldsonville Chief for four years, said local residents and officials responded well to constant updates as the storm battered her community.

Allison was posting updates three or four times an hour, with road closures, photos of crews working to repair damages, weather updates and information on curfews.

Her posts had tons of likes and comments. Some shared their own updates and information, others offered thanks to Allison for the information, and others were just humorous.

Allison posted: “Pack a pack by CVS is open according to Fire Chief Chuck Montero with supplies if needed.” Which prompted one Facebook user to comment, “Beer run!”

“I did get photos from some readers and they asked a lot of questions like: is the bridge opened or is there a curfew?” Allison said. “It worked out great.”

After the worst was over, both the mayor and sheriff personally thanked Allison for getting out so much information so quickly to so many people.
