Rockford Register Star's Jennie Broecker has been named the Director of the Metro Central Desk for GateHouse Media.
Broecker, who has served in a variety of key newsroom roles during her 17-year career in Rockford, currently is the Register Star's deputy managing editor. She will go into her new role on March 5.
As the director of the metro central desk, Broecker will oversee the 60-person design and editing hub based in Rockford and will be responsible for the production of newspapers over 5,000 circulation.
"Jennie brings a wealth of experience in project management, product development, editing and design and has the right skill set to lead our largest newspapers through this important transition," said David Arkin, Vice President of Content & Audience for GateHouse Media.
Presently, Broeckermanages Rockford's copy desk, which provides design and editing services for a nearby GateHouse daily newspaper. At the Register Star, she has served as assistant managing editor, features editor, news editor, assistant news editor and copy editor, and she also was editor in chief of Rockford Woman magazine.
Some of her accomplishments include developing a convergence partnership with a local NBC station, growing the
newspaper's social media efforts, which included teaching classes to the Rockford community, and launching numerous print and web projects.
She was named one of the Rockford Chamber of Commerce's 40 Leaders Under 40 in 2008. She is a member of Rotary International and traveled to Nigeria on a mission trip in 2010.
