It's going to be hot this week. And the next and the next.

A major heatwave is going to blanket a huge chunk of the country this week and possibly the next few weeks.

USA Today is reporting that there are more than 40 states that are going to see highs in the 90s this week.

This is a logical time to do a story on the impact of summer heat:

• First, find out what the record highs are this week so readers know what temp it needs to hit to break records. Also find out if any records have been broken yet this summer. It's been a toasty one.

• What is a heat index? Weathermen throw the term around a lot when it's hot. See if you can talk to a weather expert who can explain what this term means and how it's figured.

• Will your city have cooling centers open? Do they have general tips for the public on how to stay cool? Recommendations for kids, seniors and animals?
