Veterans Day was a busy one in Lenawee County, Mich.
The Daily Telegram had much to cover:
- A local school held a Veterans Day celebration
- Town conducted their annual parade
- Fourth-graders took part in "Take a Veteran To School Day"
How do you cover it all?
The Daily Telegram did it all with bite size pieces, lots of photographs, great packaging and nice multimedia.
What works about their front page package (seen below) is that the paper didn't try to write three or four separate stories, but gave readers the nuts and bolts of what they need to know about each event in about 5 inches each. What's also worth pointing out is that the day's events weren't wrapped into one big story, but rather displayed with individual subheads and similar sized photos.
Reader callout, web work
The paper asked readers to send in their Veterans Day photos and told them to go online to find out how to do it, where they're likely to stumble upon a variety of photo galleries and videos. Their online package.
Just good lessons in this package on how to take numerous events throughout the day, get them displayed attractively in one big center piece and offer unique content on the web.
