GateHouse News Service director Lisa Glowinski has joined the leadership ladder of the Society for Features Journalism, as secretary/treasurer for 2013.

The accolade was announced at August's annual SFJ conference at the University of Maryland Philip Merrill College of Journalism.

Glowinski has been a member of the group since 2009, a board member since 2011 and is a founding member of the SFJ Foundation, the group's scholarship and fundraising arm created in January 2012.

"It's quite an honor to be asked to be a leader of this group," Glowinski said. "I have for years admired SFJ's commitment to preserving the journalism that tells people's stories, protects people's health, bolsters communities' quality of life and educates readers on spending their time and money. The group is going through lots of change now -- as are our newspapers -- but I'm confident we're headed for great things in the years to come."

SFJ, formerly known as the American Association of Sunday and Feature Editors, or AASFE, began in 1947 and holds annual conferences to train editors, reporters, freelancers and bloggers on social media trends, story presentation ideas and more. SFJ also hosts annual Best Features Section and Excellence in Features Writing contests, and provides Diversity Fellowships each year for journalists of color to attend its annual conference.
