On Twitter, AP Stylebook accidentally tweeted "To you long-time followers" –– but we all know that AP style is "longtime." They quickly corrected the error, but I'm sure that tweeter won't be making that mistake again.
@APStylebook also says, "Do not call the child of unmarried parents illegitimate. If pertinent, say, 'whose parents were not married' or similar." -- Hey, how would you like to be called illegitimate? I'm sure you would have a few choice phrases for a reporter who wrote that about you, so stay clear of this potential insult.
Remember, we don't use symbols and accents because some newsroom production systems can't transmit them. Same goes for superscript.
Capitalize embassy with the name of a nation: the French Embassy. Lowercase in other cases: the embassy.
Wines named for regions, such as Champagne or Chianti, are capitalized. Others, like chardonnay, are lowercase. Also, it's Scotch whisky. Otherwise, it's whiskey, with an E.
Write out nautical mile in all references.
Use the term nongovernmental organizations on first reference; NGOs can be used sparingly on second reference.
Kate Middleton's title is now the Duchess of Cambridge. She is not Princess Kate.
Capitalize pope ahead of his name: Pope Benedict XVI. Otherwise, pope, papacy and pontiff are lowercase.
NATO is acceptable in all references to the North Atlantic Treaty Organizatin.
