Will your readers each spend $116.21 for Valentine's Day this year?

That's apparently the average that American adults are expected to spend this year on gifts, according to this Today Show story.

And that's up about 13 percent compared to what folks said they would spend for V-Day from a year ago.

• How are local flower shops and retail stores that sell Valentine's Day items, faring so far? Can they offer any comparisons to years past in terms of sales?

• Are customers willing to spend more this Valentine's Day? Consider a poll on your website, pose a question on Facebook or do a man-on-the-street interview at a flower shop.

• Does $116 sound high to you? Find out what a local economics expert thinks a local average might be, based on average incomes in your town.
