The fabled Boston Marathon runs through several communities in our region. Here are 5 things our newsrooms did to cover this huge event that you might adapt for a similar event in your area – a music festival or a county fair, for example

  1. Solicit reader photos of the event in paper and online prior to the event.
  2. Run participant profiles – with videos - in the weeks before the event and collect them all together on a single page
  3. Ask a poll question about readers what they think of the upcoming event
  4. Set up a Big Package on your homepage the day of the event, collecting all of your event coverage in one place
  5. Take a video of a guy proposing marriage at the finish line

(Just kidding! But check out the video – it’s fun.)
