The Macomb Journal was one of the first GateHouse papers to go through the News and Interactive Division's incubator program back in 2007. The page on the left is from June of this year. The page on the right is The Voice.

WIth a focus on McDonough County, The Voice gets a bold front page. The splash of red amplifies the new name and helps bring out the scripted "McDonough County" tag line at the top. The intensely local news hole is defined by the greater emphasis given to the rail.

Page two gets a new name to further emphasize the coverage area. Most of the original content ides for the page remains. New is the events calendar in the right rail.

The Lifestyle page still has a local focus with a staff-written centerpiece. What's new is its treatment. The mug shot and byline treatment is that of a columnist and puts a face on the local writer. The content is punchier and includes alternative formats, making it easier to read.

The Local & Region page has a tighter focus on the coverage area.

The Opinion page content is much the same. The editorial cartoon and adds a much needed visual to an otherwise gray page.

The design details of the front page carry over to the Sports page. New content in the rail includes a local fan of the day feature. A new content promotion at the top of the page pushes readers to more sports coverage inside.

The Classifieds sections also ges a makeover. The new nameplate and page name are now packaged with the information about this section, which guides the reader right where they need to go. The topical headers in the body of the page are much more bold and greatly improves the navigation for readers.
