A group of GateHouse newspapers in Kansas recently launched a redesign to coincide with converting to a narrower web width to reduce printing costs. Seven newspapers in Kansas have launched with three more to do so in the coming weeks.

This effort is the second phase of a corporate project in which about 40 GateHouse newspapers in several states are converting to the new width.

Newspapers in Arkansas were the first to launch, followed by Louisiana and Kansas. Newspapers in Missourit are set to launch in late August and early September.

A editors had this to say about the redesigns:

"The redesigned pages have been working out well. It brought back some uniformity to out look and I've had several positive comments from readers about how professional the paper looks."
— Terry Spradley, editor, St. John News

"We had a pretty smooth launch (Tuesday) night, and made our deadline with five minutes to spare!"
— John Ford, managing editor, Neosho Daily News
