The Dover Post Co., a group of weekly GateHouse Media newspapers in Delaware, launched a major overhaul of their products last week.
The hyper-local newspaper group went through the GateHouse Media Newsroom Incubator program over a several-month period.
As part of the incubator program, the group:
- Created a universal desk of page designers and copy editors (previsouly production was handled individually in each newsroom)
- Established consistent designs, styles and formatting among all papers
- Developed a regional paper with zoned editions for five newspapers that serve neighboring towns
- Streamlined statewide coverage and submitted community information Implemented unique content plans at each paper that all included quicker story telling and more reader involvement
- Increased the number of web updates on all their sites
Jason Brimmer, general manager of the Community News newspapers, which consists of a group of weekly papers in the Dover Post Co., helped coordinate the project locally. And Joe Greco, GateHouse News & Interactive Division design director, helped launch the project with onsite assistance.
The following newspapers were redesigned: Dover Post, Community Newspapers, The Beacon, Sussex Countian, Sun Times and Middletown Transcript.
