The Patriot Ledger named front page of the day (02/03/12)

I'm sure all readers of this blog have seen a "5 things to know about ..." ASF that gives readers chunks of information about a local topic.

The Patriot Ledger takes that ASF idea and turns it into a super promotion for its centerpiece today. Let's take a look, shall we?

The headline uses the familiar structure with a big, red "5" to get readers attention, followed by "Great Pats stories in today's paper," referring, of course, to the New England Patriots who take on the New York Giants in the Super Bowl on Sunday in Indianapolis.

The big vertical photo shows a bunch of fans of all ages dressed in New England colors. The photo pairs with the first of five content promotions to stories inside:

1. SUPER FANS — A group of fans meets every weekend in Hanson, brought together by love of Pats football.

2. SUPER DENTIST— A Marshfield dentist is in Indianapolis with the team, but it's not just a business trip.

3. SUPER NICE CHURCHES — Some local parishes are holding earlier Masses or canceling them Sunday because of the big game.
(No link for this only-in-print story.)

4. SUPER CHALLENGE — The New York Giants defensive line is among the most athletic and productive in football.

5. SUPER MODEL — A New York newspaper intercepts email from Tom Brady's wife, Gisele Bundchen.

What a great way to promote related stories in the entire paper!
Nice page.
