The State Journal-Register was all over the Republican primary election, devoting nearly it's entire front page to the race.
Mitt Romney, obviously, was the big winner, as seen in the headline. Speaking of headlines, nice job with the deck heads, adding more context to the package. The second deck, though, is a bit long. "Spending Advantage" has quite a few characters. Perhaps a solution could have been: "Advertising: Romney spends $3.5M in state; Santorum $500,000".
Love that AP photo showing Romney's face amid the heads of onlookers. Shows he's the center of attention.
I like how the voting percentages won by each candidate shown at the top of the AP story at right. What's missing, though, is an update on the delegate count following the Illinois primary. The first to earn 1,144 delegates will face President Barack Obama in the fall.
I like, too, that local election coverage is included here on the front page, also with percentages of votes won.
Down the left side of the page is full rail of content promotions that help readers navigate the SJ-R's massive election coverage.
Well done!
