The Repository's centerpiece story for Wednesday takes a look at local top-selling cars.
The vertical presentation of the vehicles nicely emphasizes that headline.
The cutouts of the vehicles certainly grab your attention, right? The red numbers, though a bit large and compete with the headline, add impact.
Instead of banking on bold visuals, sales numbers from 2010 and 2011, as well as the percent change, are included with each vehicle — great info that is the crux of the story.
Because the story shows that sales are climbing, I would have changed the order in which the sales information is displayed. The sales numbers for each year is a timeline of sorts. Listing the higher 2011 numbers first, followed by the lower 2010 figures, the information by itself would suggest a downward trend. Transposing those numbers puts them in chronological order and keeps the numbers going up, which would better reflect the story.
I'd also suggest doing the same with the chart at the bottom showing the next five top sellers, which is a nice addition to the package.
Really nice page.
