The Daily Messenger out of Canandaigua, N.Y., uses a fun package to play up a story written by staffer Mike Murphy on the city being named to a Top 10 list of most romantic small towns.

The list was created and published online earlier this week by SmarterTravel.com.

The centerpiece headline refers to the long-running slogan "Virginia is for lovers," which was coined by an advertising agency in the 1960s for the state's tourism office.

Though nicely written, the number of decks in this layered headline is a bit high. With the label, main and secondary heads, there are nine decks.

In addition to the red heart, the visuals include images that show places mentioned in the online article.

To stir up some interest in the newspaper's Facebook page, a breakout includes some local comments. I like how the names were displayed in blue to mimic the site, too.

Nicely done.
